Responsibilities
- Use creativity and abilities to create unique, functional, stylish and “edgy” designs.
- Work as a TEAM with Brand Managers and other designers.
- Lead design process from creative aspect while maintaining established timing requirements.
- When there are “rushed” projects follow through on the timing requested and give the best effort to deliver the best product for these abbreviated time lines.
- Make sure that all tooling issues are reviewed with the Developer and the Director before new tooling is opened.
- Follow marketing briefs and line plans and make sure to communicate with all involved to deliver to these briefs.
- Interact with sport participants to understand the “mind set” of these athletes.
- Follow direction given by the Sales Department, Pierre, and Lenny and make sure that this direction is understood and that timing is clear.
- Interact and take direction from the Merchandise Manager as far as styling, price point issues, and colorway.
- Go on inspirational trips, approved by Director. Prepare “TRIP REPORTS” that give overview of inspiration gleaned from these trips as well as any market “or directional” ideas these trips inspire. Submit these reports to the R&D Director only.
- Increase personal communication with design team members to create a positive and creative atmosphere.
- Continue the professional development all members of the design team. Inspiring and taking inspiration from each design team member.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 4 years experience as a Footwear Designer is required.
- Must have a background in the study of Design
- Action Sports experience is preferred.
- Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Requires knowledge of Brand Management, Organizational awareness, Customer Knowledge, Influence Skills, Leadership Identity and Visioning.
- Skills required include use of Word, Outlook, Excel, And PowerPoint at an Intermediate Level. Must have advanced skills with Photoshop and Illustrator.
- Physical Demands and Work Environment: This is primarily a sedentary office classification and employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels, controlled temperature conditions and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees have occasional exposure to irate customers, staff and public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. The position occasionally bends, stoops, reaches, pushes and pulls drawers to retrieve and file information and lifts and carries reports and records that typically weigh less than 20 pounds.
